Starter solenoid
Discussion
I am working on a new wiring loom for my Vixen and I put a new starter solenoid
against the bulkhead. I have a question. It has two large spades with nuts.
One is for the + battery cable the other for + cable to the starter motor. One small spade fot the ignition coil and one small spade for the ignition key.
If I am right with a metal car the solenoid gets the earth through the metal bulkhead.
Must I earth the solenoid from the solenoid housing to the chassis?

Why not just fit a modern pre-engaged starter motor with built in solenoid and run your main cables directly to it then earth via your engine block to chassis?against the bulkhead. I have a question. It has two large spades with nuts.

Thanks Neil but I like the old skool stuff.
Modern stuff is so reliable and that,s not what we want in Holland.
We like to talk hours over how to solve a problem with lots of beer.
I have an old skool lightweight oxide chassis and some old skool specially cracked uprights as well if you are interested Modern stuff is so reliable and that,s not what we want in Holland.

I do like the old Skool slotmags on the car Eric.
I will have to get over to Zolder one of these years.

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is that if you are running a 10V ballasted system the additional jump wire to coil side of the ballast so as to spike the system with 12v on start up.

I run a non ballasted system with a 12 volt coil.
Must the earth wire from the starter solenoid housing to the chassis be very thick?
