Just been on the Tierp website, all ticket prices are on now for the European event in June. Unless Im reading the prices wrong at the moment with the Krona and Pound exchange rate a 4 day ticket with a grandstand seat is going to cost a massive £175ish, bit steep that is, parking prices anything from £5 a day upto £8. I know the facility is going to be really smart and must have cost a hell of alot to build and will be great for European drag racing but personally I think those ticket prices are really overpriced. What do other people think to this?. I was really up for going to this event but am a little unsure now. Also passed where the grandstands are going to be are there grass bankings that you can view from or any additional viewing areas?

Does the ticket price include camping?

At least its not just the racers being ripped off now, they are gonna try it with the spectators too.

I think 'ripped off' is a bit harsh for an event that costs 40 some odd quid a day for 8 or more hours of entertainment each day. Now a bunch of clothes horses and car collecting knuckle draggers kicking a ball about for an hour and a half for the same money..... now that my friend is a top of the range rip off. biggrin

I think you're right there Barry..

Have the race entry costs for this event been released? Also, is there an answer to the question I raised earlier about camping?

The prize money for the event is set in the Fia 2011 rulebook so that will not increase in line with a higher than average entrance fee for spectators.

Having said that the Swedish Kronor is particularly strong at the moment which is helping the Swedish buy stuff in from America and put more cars on the track.

That being the case, how are the racers ripped off?

Yeh camping is available again not on the cheap side between £20-£30 (Not sure if that is per night). The Krona is strong? if it is it certainly isnt with the £ when I went to Mantorp in 09 I'm sure i got at least 12.5 krona to the £, at the moment its around 9.8 krona to our £

Racers are still having to pay 1000 Euros per season on top of entry fee's otherwise they are not paid any prize money.

I presume you're referring to this section from the relevant FIA document..

FIA said:
7.6 To be eligible for any awards in the FIA European Drag Racing Championships (series or event) a FIA European Drag Racing Championship series registration fee has to be paid each year by each driver in each class to the Championship administration at the latest 30 days before taking part in any Championship round. This single fee is in the sum of €800 plus Value added tax (VAT) and covers all rounds of the Championship. This registration fee is in addition to all normal race entry fees. For application forms contact the FIA European Drag Racing Championship administration.
Available to download here : http://www.fia.com/en-GB/sport/regulations/Pages/F... .. but you make no reference to the traveling expenses available in addition to the prize money, which, if I'm not mistaken, could potentially offset the €800 +tax cost..

I beg to differ!

Imagine that you are sat in your house in Stcokholm/Linkopping/where-ever and are considering coming across to the Pod for a meeting

In 2009, using your rates, 1,000SKr would have got you £80

Today, again at your rates, the same 1,000Skr gets you £102

Therefore, the SKr is strong at the moment......

It works 2 ways you know....

That's correct.

Entry fee's for spectators increase, prize money and travelling for racers stay the same.

Organiser makes more.

If people attend this event in droves you can guarantee entry fee's will increase at all of the other events too.

I wouldn't moan and I wouldn't spend it, I would invest it.

Well that is very charitable of you. I personally oppose things that leave me out of pocket rather than embracing them.

I am just willing to vote with my feet, we would not be seeing such high inflation if more were prepared to do so.

Why 'charitable' ? Drag strips the world over are businesses, they want to make a profit and why the hell not ? That's their raison d'etre, they are a profit making operation, just like a pub or a shop or anywhere else that has a product for sale.I don't understand why drag racing should not make money for the people with the kahunas to put it on, what's the problem ? Your ethos of opposing "things that leave me out of pocket rather than embracing them." must be a bind everytime you have to spend any money, at all, on anything mate.

edited for some schoolboy howler typo's.

Hockenheim is £125ish for a grandstand seat not somewhere in the heavens that you need an oxygen mask to climb too and a decent parking spot pitside this year. Yes, there are cheaper options, but IMHO, if you're going to an 'away' FIA race, it is something of a treat anyway, and you expect to pay a bit more.

Having booked my flight and car for under £150 for Tierp, I won't wince at adding the price of the ticket on top. I know plenty of people who spend the equivalent and way more every year going to see 22 men chase a pig skin for an hour and a half whilst listening to racist chants and "your missus takes it up the gary glitter!" sing-songs. Know which sport I'd rather get 10x the entertainment from for the price.
