I would try and switch it round and have the main meal at lunch and not wait until the evening meal for large meal.
I have smoothie for breakfast and then something with carbs but not much for lunch and then a small salad for evening meal... If Im training I change it slightly and make sure I compensate.

Either change the hour you eat, change the type of carbs you are eating i.e. you could switch to brown rice/wholemeal pasta, or cut out carbs late at night, and then fill up in the morning with a good breakfast.
I generally find that if I start the day on a good breakfast, then I can eat less and less throughout the day and I notice a massive reduction (quite quickly) in body fat.
As a general rule though, for me, just cutting out bread works well.
Nothing works better than combining this with a bit of exercise though.

As the saying goes, "Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince, and Dinner like a Pauper."
I generally just have cereal and toast for breakfast, but when I was in the RAF, I would sometimes go for a cooked breakfast, and I would notice later in the day that I wouldn't be as hungry as normal.
As for the carbs, I too like bread and pasta, and I think it's bread that keeps the weight on me.
Times I've been overseas for a few months, I just couldn't get much bread or pasta, and I would notice the weight dropping off me, over a four month period with moderate exercise but hardly any bread, pasta and booze, I would lose around two stone.
It would quickly come back once home and eating normally again.
If it's weight you want to lose, try cutting out the bread and pasta all together, or eat very little of it, I'm sure you'll notice something after a month. I've often thought of doing that myself but I always crumble when smelling freshly baked bread!
