The missus tells me she's just had some forms through.. telling her she's been guilty of doing 50mph in a village (30 zone)and will be prosecuted. Nice.

She's already been to the Thames Valley 'Ive been a bit naughty' day, last year, so that life's gone.

What can she expect this time (apart from being scowled at by your truly)

I would expect the standard provisional offer of an endorsable FPT. It would probably be in her interests to pay it

Fill the form in for her, naming her, but signing it with your name. That will cause them some confusion (Dwight Yorke Defence). They may then just drop it.

It's not quite a Dwight Yorke defence; his agent returned the form unsigned. Although doing that will now get you a S172.
However, assuming that your signature is not obviously not your wife's, it may work in the end.
You would have to decline the FPN (if offered), and let the speeding go to court.
Your wife's defence would be that the form is inadmissable because;
1) It is not a form purported to be signed by the accused.
2) It is not a confession (Yorke).
You would have to demand a 'voire dire' on the admissibilty of the form to get it thrown out before the end of the prosecution case to prevent the form, although not sufficient in itself, to justify a guilty verdict, giving rise to 'a case to answer' and allowing the mags to convict by 'adverse inference'.
Although, that would not be problem if she wasn't there, i.e. represented.
By this time, hopefully the six months limit for a S172 prosecution would be up.

Whether any of that would give rise to more serious charges, is another matter.

Thats the most likely outcome unless you take Jefrey Archer's advice. As he states though, if it goes 'monkey', the penalty could be severe indeed!
