Hi guys any one had any experience with the Nitron Racing Red's? The budget set, whats the difference between these and the £1200 jobbies?

Bud get the best you can afford in my book.I have ohlins on mine which are ten years old and still look very good, they can be serviced when needed and are not a nightmare on the road.On my last car i went for a cheaper set that lasted two years costing me 800 quid.I wish i had stumped up the extra dosh to buy the better ones,Think Ohlins are about 2 grand may be cheaper if you hunt around

Thanks for your input guys, suppose you get what you pay for, seems pointless making suspension that only lasts a couple of years! These must be bump and rebound adjustable(the nitrons at £1200)

People as a rule dont tend to keep their cars very long bud,so i think many companys have that in mind. Its only when they meet people like us who keep cars for long periods that they run into problems.

The Nitrons are very well made and have a good reputation. They can also be rebuild and IMO are of a much better built quality than some makes you can get for £500 and under. Having dealt with Nitron I can say their customer service is great too.

There was mention on here recently of spring rates, something you might want to think about if you're buying a set. The thinking was that the oem springs are too weak, ie the car tends to be under-sprung and a higher lb-rated spring should be fitted. The rates talked about were 600lb(?) which seems very high for such a light car, but they are inboard (mounted in from the ends of the wishbones) which means there is a mechanical advantage when the wheel moves up and down, which might help to explain why such a high rated spring might be needed.

I would like to hear more discussion/opinion of spring rates. Certainly cerbs seem to eat up (cheap) dampers, possibly the dampers take a hammering due to the underspringing issue.

I thought that typically they are under damped and the spring rates are about right for a GT, if you want an out and out track tool them go harder on the springs.

They come out from the factory under damped as dampers are expensive but springs are cheap, TVR saved money on the dampers.

I have changed my originals for the Nitron dampers and Eibach springs of the original rating, now that I have dampers of the correct rating for the spring/weight of car it feels just about right I would say.
