Insulating my loft.
Discussion
Hi all. I'm tidying my loft up a bit. I'm not doing anything major, just turning it into a useable space. I'm planning on sheeting it with Gyproc, but I'm unsure of how to insulate between the Gyproc and the external roof boards. Do I need a space/cavity between the insulation and roof boards, by using board type insulation, or can I buy the roll stuff and just pack it in???
Any info much appreciated! Cheers!

I just put some of that bouncy yellow stuff between the joists (or are they rafters? Anyway, the horizontal bits) and put chipboard loft flooring over the top and nailed it down. Bingo, usable insulated loft.
At least it was the thing to do 15 years ago; now probably banned by the EU that say you need 40,000,000 miles of loft insulation, but I don't care.

Thats what I have done as well. The latest government advice is to insulate between the joists and then lay a further layer at rightangles hence covering the joists and preventing the laying of boarding. However some people who cover their jists are finding a bit problem with condensation so I'll stick with the method you and I have used!At least it was the thing to do 15 years ago; now probably banned by the EU that say you need 40,000,000 miles of loft insulation, but I don't care.
As regards the OP's question (which Google has answered for him) you must leave a gap at the edges to allow air into the loft space.
