I have stripped my front hubs to replace the bearings but now realise I need a drift kit to insert them squarely, does any one know where I might get one from before Friday (pub club attendance depends on it)

Cheers

Paul

Ps local to Chi or Fareham/Soton would be good.

Depends on the car but I've always managed with a block of wood to get them flush, then a soft metal drift to seat them properly. Normally fiddlier getting the old ones out than the new in. On alloy hubs heating the hub, freezing the bearing outer helps as well.

I used a socket the same size as the bearing and then tapped on that to push the bearings into the rear brakes on the golf, worked a treat!

Cheers, I am going down the BBQ and freezer route biggrin The race has to go quite far in so am hoping to find a set of drifts like this http://www.powertoolworld.co.uk/draper-misc-auto-s... but local and in stock! if I can't find a set though I will prob do as you say as need to get it running for Tuesday.

Try your local Euro Car Parts, they may have to order in but they do the whole Sealey range, VS703 is probably what you want (assuming it's taper bearings):

Can't say I have ever needed a set though. As others have said a socket is the usual answer or cut through the old bearing taper seat so it's expandable and use that as a drift if the socket won't fit. Did one the other day using that method.

Cool thanks for your help and very kind offer to put them on your press but I will try an old socket first, I have got the old races out now and with the new ones in the freezer I shall be firing up the BBQ tomorrow, so all being well pub club is still on the agenda driving

:thanks: Paul
