koni shock adjustment

Hi folks i have decided to play around with the adjustment on my front konis, got them off the car but dont seem able to engage the adjustment, obviously doing something stupid and i am sure someone will point me in right direction.

Prise out the bump stop rubbers from up inside the shock top half, this lets the top half sink lower into the bottom to engage the valve.
