Petrol smell

Guy's, every time I open my garage door there is a strong smell of petrol, there are no leaks and the inside of the car does not smell of petrol.

I mentioned this to my dealer and he said it's the way the fuel system is designed.

Is there any thing I can do to cure this problem?

Check the integrity of the large downpie from the filler to the tank. Replace your filler cap - the rubber ring at the base is designed to expand when you turn the key to lock it. If it is worn then you won't have a good seal and hence a pong!

Take off the filler cap and tighten the nut at the bottom a little (just a little) to improve the sealing.

Mine used to smell a lot of petrol ( I have an integral garage and you could smell it sometimes in the house ). I adjusted the nut and it cured it. Make sure you turn it the right way - I did it the wrong way first, then refitted it and could not get the thing off again. I had to undo rubber tube and push it out.

I've also got an integral garage and adjusted to cap nut which also sorted it, after it's been out on a long run you still get a hot car smell in the hallway though. I also leave the connecting door open when I get home as the garage is like a sauna after a run out!
