Sale or return - SOR. Good idea?

Would not do it myself again as the transactions never seem to run smoothly. Best I have had is a car being sold by a franchised dealer for £500 less than agreed and the worst the dealer blowing up the engine on a virtually new M3.

Additionally, the number of "prestige" garages that have gone under having sold SOR cars is legion.

Thread inspired by the Mercedes forum thread, where a specialist has gone pop causing much misery and that at the high end of the market especially SOR is pretty common. Seems people are happy with being put in a weak position re an expensive "asset".
