Don't know if this is old hat...
Apparently the lights on the 998 will be almost identical to the Carrera GT lights and will have Cayenne derived v8 engines tunes to 400hp stock and 500hp in turbo form. The interior on 998 will remain unchanged from the 997.
The 998 v8 will be significantly more expensive. Porsche have not yet decided whether to only have the flat 6 on the Boxster and have the Carrera only run the V8, or have the Carrera running the V8 and flat 6 stretched to close to 4 litres.

Cruciform crank V8 engines (as opposed to flat plane-like a Ferrari) are unique in their configuration-for reasons I need not go into here.I design and develop V8 engines for a living and love them, I much prefer them to V10s (the cruciform crank config ones that is)-but I am in all likelihood trading my trusty and excellent Porsche 928 V8 for a flat six air cooled in the future- I wouldn't have considered it if it was a V8 just as I wouldn't consider a Porshe 928 if it was a Flat six.
I'm a firm believer in tradition and herritage, and that was why the 911/993 appeals to me so much (flat six -air cooled)- that's why I prefer old American Muscle cars with V8s to Dodge Viper V10s, and why I also prefer a BMW E30 325i sport to an E30 M3, why I also think that a V8 superchaged Jaguar is no replacement for the sublime old V12.
I don't want to think about a V8 engines Porsche 911/998!
