Motorway cats eyes

I cannot possibly be the only driver who tries to change lanes, leave the motorway etc whilst trying to avoid the cats eyes?

why is it the first tyre you manage to miss but the second tyre ALWAYS gets hit?

I can change lanes without hitting them. Not every time but it's certainly doable.

Me too, and I've yet to do it I suppose if you steer violently enough you'll do it, and can play a second game of 'how many cats eyes do I pass before sorting the resulting tank slapper out'

My friend used to challenge himself to join a motorway then move straight out to the lane 3 as quickly as possible without hitting any cateyes.

I stopped going in a car with him after he cut up an artic in lane 2 and then a very fast saloon in lane 3. To my knowledge he never actually came to, or caused, any harm and now that he lives in London he doesn't drive any more (doesn't need to).


I confess that I do try to avoid running them over when I'm changing lanes too.

Its easily doable (is that a word?) but you have to be a bit more violent than you would normally.

I try it an often manage it successfully without having to resort to swerving/dab of oppo type driving styles. It's just another little thing to keep me awake when driving!

I'm the opposite. If I am getting bored while driving along a quiet motorway/dual carriageway, I'll run along the cat's eyes that seperate the lanes to see how long I can go before missing one. It's not as easy as you think.

Of course, while doing this you need to maintain observation to move back in to lane properly if someone comes up behind to overtake.

Yup, I do it o liven up the miles too.

Four wheel steer makes it a bit easier to cruise across lanes without being too violent as the car goes slightly diagonal rather than just steering left or right.

I also wonder if the wheelbase is better suited to missing the spacing without steering hard left/right than other cars I've had, I'm guessing some cars will naturally fit the spacing gap better than others.

E39 was 2,830mm, Prelude is 2550mm, can't be arsed to do any more science on it.

When they were very young, I discovered that doing this was a great way to get the kids to drop off to sleep.

I'd say I can do it about 50% of the time... I think narrower tyres make it easier. Also glad I'm not the only one

I have to do it. With run flat tyres if I hit a cats eye I crush a vertebrae.

It is good to try this when you have a passenger and do it so they don't notice you trying!

I can usually miss them but it involves an S type manouver.

I usually hit loads when that bloody speed camera van is on the flyover. I make a point of taking about a 1/4 mile to change lanes, much to the annoyance of my fellow mid lane motorists.

Is this going to end up being one of those OCD threads in which members state they can only have the radio vol as an even number or the rotary switch at 12 o'clock?

Tire width also affects your success. My dad finds it impossible in his 300C because of the ridiculously fat rear tyres.
