Hi

I've joined the forum as I'm in the market for a Noble, 3 or 3r. However, the more I read about them the more I realise that the Gbox is a weak point, ie they die quickly. I dont' particularly want to spend my wonga on a car only to have to replace the gbox in the next couple of K. I will also be using the car on the track, approx 1 / month so will be giving it a bit more hammer than std road work. Is there anything that can be done, ie LSD, uprated GB? I'm guessing the reason is the additional grip afforded by the noble compared to the focus / mondeo + these have ESP & traction control.
Any direction / help greatfully appreciated.

I have my eye on 2 cars at the mo, both on pistonheads. so would like to make a decsion soonest.

Well that, and the small matter of double the HP and torque!

Yes lots people upgrade the gearbox for track use, shot peened and oil cooler, plus uprated clutch, flywheel to be done at same time makes sense.

If you are going for a 3 or 3R then assuming it has the 6 speed box you should not have any problems. At least until you start upgrading it for more torque/power. wink

I would have thought as long as you have LSD and it is a 6 speed gear box and the car has not been upgraded with extra power - then the standard box will be fine as it can handle it.

If there have been upgrades - then you might be in danger of you drive it hard and exceed the gear boxes limits.

I seem to remember having a look over the specs of the various bits of drivetrain and the max torque was 290ft/lbs. But, like everything it all depends...

Bash it over the curbs with your foot still planted, or down the bouncy lanes doing the same and it's only a matter of time. Nice smooth driving (not necessarily slowly) and it'll last.

Old hands will remember the chap years ago that bought a new 3R and posted about had anyone got near the book 0-60 time. He then tried to delete all those posts and was trying to sue Noble as his car kept breaking driveshafts etc.
