Road tax ... it should be based on weight not CO2

Well that's my theory.

Heavier vehicles no matter how little CO2 they produce should be penalised, the lighter cars which take less raw materials, and energy to make, should be promoted.

We are all for advanced material construction in the 21st century, it works for F1, the number of driver fatalities has really sunk over the years. We need to do the same for cars on the road. The manufacturers will not do it because carbon based composites etc costs too much, better spend it on "the electronical" gadgets that get sales. So they need to be forced like they are for CO2. The great thing about encouraging light weight rather than reduced CO2 is that it benefits CO2 anyway. It also benefits safety far more than CO2 does.

Also it benefits PH style cars. I'm sure a lot of us liked the Alfa 4C

Lets get away from heavy diesel cars that do low CO2 and do high output petrol cars in a light car. The Lotus Europa was never a popular car from that range, but if you could get something like that weight in a future Focus RS you would not be unhappy.

A brilliant idea the lighter the better

And it will really annoy the hippies as sports cars will pay less tax

My thoughts are bks to that! Ridiculous idea. The only fair system is one which is related to road usage, i.e. fuel tax, but that shouldn't go up anyway since it's already stupidly high.

But lighter cars produce less road wear and tear over your "road usage" so it still helps out.
