Hi guys, I'm losing fuel from my 2a but can't see where it's going. If I fill up the tank then I get drips on the road. Other times it appears to evaporate? Plus smells strongly of petrol outside of vehicle but not particularly so under the bonnet.
Anyone know if the tanks are a common cause or whether fuel lines are more likely?
I've also found it difficult to start like the tank is empty and once started, a couple of moments when the engine nearly dies then picks up again, as though a pocket of air went through the carb?

Tanks do rust out on the seams. Somewhere was going galv replacements.Look for wet patches on tank but first take seat out and panel on top of tank the gaskests around the pick up pipe or sender may have rotted away.pif all ok follow thepipework to the carb checking for splits or bad joins. Does it smell more petroly when full, only when running or just all the time?

I'd say it pretty much smells most of the time. Will look under the seat over the weekend. Cheers.

I have a series 3 always smelt inside, noticed leakage more when full to brim....eventually by looking under the seat saw it has gone at the seem. Easy job to replace.
