Lady on the radio this morning talking about having ME, and how much benefit she gets for lazing around all day in bed.
I had a friend who claimed they suffered from this I think its call Lazyituss, these people should have their benefit stopped immediately and sent out to work!!!
I'm tired but I don't claim its ME FFS!!!

I agree that anyone who can work, should do so.
But do you know actually anyone with ME? A family member has it and I have seen how hard it has been to overcome - and yes she does work btw. I also knew another person with ME, I had not heard from him for a while and found out this week that he had taken his own life.
Rather than just assuming they are all lazy, perhaps each case should be judged on merit?

I think you're missing the difference between laziness and an illness somewhere. There probably are people who use ME as an excuse not to do anything but equally I know of at least one person personally who has had it who is certainly not lazy. Also, it's not just 'tired', it's chronic exhaustion to the point where normal life is seriously disrupted.
Bit like people who claim "depression" or "stress" isn't it? Nothing a quick application of MTFU wouldn't sort out, of course.
As said above, I'm sure there are some malingerers but ME, stress and depression are all real and can all cause significant distress. "Take each case on its merits" isn't a very good Daily Mail-esque headline though.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't think this so called condition has been proven, in other words it considered to be all in the mind. I'm sure if these people get out of bed and get on with their lives they would feel soooo much better!!But do you know actually anyone with ME? A good friend of mine has ME, a very active guy was a shadow of his former self for quite a few years. He wasn't being lazy, didn't just fancy slobbing out for a few years, it almost broke him mentally. It's real.
That said... I do have my doubts about a girl I knew a long time ago who supposedly had it, I'm pretty sure she was just a lazy

. Problem is there isnt a "test" for it, a brain scan or blood sample isnt going to give a positive or negative result for having ME.
Which means those people that DO suffer from it (and it affects people in many different ways and severities, it is NOT a pleasant illness) get painted with the lazy brush as the lieing, cheating, layabouts that "claim" to have it but really dont.
As has been said, it's become a bit like claiming stress or depression to get off work. Which is a shame as it is very real and ruins many peoples lives.
I'd love to see a test devised and anyone that's faking it getting rounded up and shot.

Pretty offensive remark really, a close family member of mine had it. She was very intelligent with excellent A Levels and Uni etc and certainly had an excellent work ethic and was getting close to becoming a airline pilot before being knocked down with this illness. Several years down the line she is more or less over it and now works as an accountant but her dream of becoming and airline pilot are not gonna happen. During the illness it was horrendous and very debilitating. Yes, just because there's no test for a specific illness doesn't mean it's in the mind as you assert. There are plenty of illnesses like this and many are debilitating. Either you are very young or don't have much of a social life but I can't believe you've not come across someone who has been unfortunate enough to be saddled with one of these things.
