Copper pipes for power steering rack

Chaps,

I have replaced the shorter of the two pipes with a nice flexible braided hose from Pirtek. However the longer of the two is now leaking and because the fittings on the Pirtek hose are bigger diameter I cannot fit another one on so it has to be the original copper pipe. TVR Power don't do them and Pirtek don't have the right pipe or fittings.

Any suggestions as to where to get the right size copper pipe from? Use one from an old rack maybe?

Don't know of one specifically, but would suggest a classic car restorer.

Try Earle's at the silverstone circuit, they can do most braided hoses and fittings.

Been there, done it - well more accurately didn't do it! I took the rack to Pirtek and they can replace one hose but not both as the fittings will not fit. Sent the tack to Earles and got the same answer. The only people who could do it were Kiley-Clinton (??) 0121 772 8000 and I had to send the rack to them.
If you can come up with an alternative let us all know.

I'm suprised Pirtek can't sort you out, they sorted my rack hoses for me

I remember we ended up changing the adapters that go into the rack and the distributor head, it wasn't an issue.

I can't remember if Pirtek made up a bespoke fitting. Anyway, it wasn't a problem for them as they had a lathe etc in the back room, but I think that was when I wanted to join TVR clutch tube to Chevy clutch hose.

Only thing I can think of is the rack I got the hoses made for was from a Tuscan, but its identical to the Cerb rack.

I'll have a look at mine over the weekend, wonder whether the Tuscan distributor head is slightly different.

The actual pipe isn't an issue to get hold of just standard copper tube but I presume its the end fittings we are talking about?
I need a new long copper pipe myself as I bought a secondhand rack but the pipe was damaged in the middle. I have joined it with a compression fitting but it weeps slightly.

The rack in mine has always had braided hoses. The picture may help in your hunt for someone to supply them.
