Mercedes Gives The SLS A Splash Of Gulf

What is it about baby blue and orange that just makes so many cars look so much better?

Whatever it is, Mercedes has decided to use a spot of it and daub an SLS with the famous Gulf livery for the New York motor show.

Sure, it's no drifting 1950hp freightliner, but we like the subtle flashes of orange that are just enough to let you know that this particular Merc hasn't merely been specced up by a hip-hop artisit inexplicably fond of baby blue.

Looks like Riviera Blue from the Pork range and the orange is just a bit too subtle.

Clearly a somewhat dubious effort to disguise/justify those hideous US spec reflectors...

Errrm, no. Just no.

On the one hand, it's a horrible colour to use on such a large, blocky, car.

On the other hand, it's not black, white, silver or grey and hence is better than 99% of Mercs.

I really like the SLS and that blue really suits it. Way nicer than the usual silver. Alhough I did see a nice red one in London a few months back which looked good too.

I think you'll find race car Teams don't give a stuff about how it looks, they'll have the fastest one.

Makes a nice change from the slightly dull silver.
Should look great on a track or road!

Fair comment, but I think you'll also find that some 'race car teams' are just 'gentlemen racers' with a lot of cash and they are in it for fun and might buy on looks/brand.

Basic silver will do me if I had the money to buy one...sadly, I don't.

No sure why they have gone for this baby blue colour.

I have a GT40 a few feet from me in Gulf livery - looks better than both of them. A model GT40 on the office windowsill, in case anyone gets the wrong idea.
