Hi all
I've done about 10,000 miles in my 635d. It really is a great car, but I do miss petrol and putting the windows down just to hear the engine.
I also have a trip around europe coming up in june. I would like to stay with the 6 so have decided to go for the 650i, just to be different the cabrio.
WIth regards to using a convertible all season how they are they to look after? and insulation wise (this would be my first convertible)
Also, even though I know it wont be greta on fuel being a V8 what should I expect MPG wise and miles to a tank?

Regards

James.

Mine's a coupe, but I've heard that the roof on the 6 is very good.

MPG wise, at 70-80 you can get high 20's poss even 30 (only at 70mph though!) Going to Le Mans last year and sat at 80 the whole way (had pregnant wife with me wink) I was seeing 400-450 miles from a tank.

Edit: for real world urban driving, we get an average of 22-23mpg. If you start opening it up and pressing on then this will turn to high teens quite quickly.

Many thanks for the reply.

I haven't ruled put the coupe yet. As while its lovely weather at the moment I might think differently in the winter...

Those figures aren't as bad as I was expecting to be honest.

I get about 17mpg around town, 24mpg on fast motorway trips and up to 30mpg on the motorway if I stay below 60mph.

The roof is excellent, when it's up you just forget you're driving a soft top. Noise levels are low and temperature has never been an issue either way.

I used the car for most of last winter, except when the windows froze up and the doors wouldn't open. The problem is that the windows have to drop a few millimeters to allow the doors to be opened and closed. I've since treated the car with a rubber restorer, so that might help.

From what I know now, I'd have probably bought a soft top version.

Regarding mpg, ours shows 19-22mpg far more than it shows 25+! My wife can nanny it to keep it around 24-25 with "urban" driving. I'm always at ~20 though.

Also agree with the above. Stop start round London or the like would see mid teens.

Thanks guys.
webber, good to hear that the roof is good. I had the same problem with the dropping window with my coupe last winter.

I agree with this. I have covered nearly 50k of motorway miles in just over 2 years and the cab is far nicer than the coupe as one really cool function is to drop the rear window for a little ventilation and to hear the exhaust note more if it is not warm enough to drop the roof. I have averaged about 22mpg but don't begrudge that at all as the sound is worth the extra ££

There is an auxilliary heater that you can set on a timer to defrost the car before you go out on a cold day so never any need for the doors to be frozen

Soft close doors should be a priority option on a cab as yu just pull them too rather than slamming a frameless door. Head up display is superb if you are touring as easy to forget the speed you are doing and Logic 7 speakers is another must have.

Many thanks for the reply.

Certainly sounds good. I'd be willing to sacrifice the economy for a bit of noise.

Options wise, I would want the soft close doors. The HUD too as I had it in my previous M5 and thought it was brilliant.

Something els i'm on the lookout for is the extended options list but doesn't seem to be many around

I did spot this one but the chap said its sold. Many options on it.

That is a beautiful example / spec and extremely rare. I would personally avoid a black interior as remember that you are driving it with the roof up for a lot of the year and the whole black interior )seats, dashboard, roof lining) is a bit gloomy. Now this one with champagne merino really is a lovely combo as long as you don't have kids with messy hands...!
