So here is the secret to the CRS's fearsome reputation - they all get tanked up before they start wading in to quell riots wink

It didn't do Nelson's or Wellington's men any harm.

Oh, so the last bastion for the defence of the French State might strike?
Bring it on.
If might is all the politicians have, not reasoned argument, there is no future.

I went into a gendarmerie station in the south of France to report a stolen camera.
The officer behind the desk offered me and my mate a bottle of beer each from a fridge under the counter, and joined us in drinking one whilst he took the report.
Very civilised.

I stopped at an Autoroute Services for a sandwich en route to Le Mans last year. There were 5 Gendarmes at the bar drinking a beer each, then they went out on Autoroute patrol.

Good. We all need a break. And if there is any group of people I want to have a civilized, relaxed lunch and a glass of wine/beer before the afternoon shift it is the Police, and especially the Riot Police. They do a difficult, stressfull, and sometimes dangerous job. The last thing we need is for them to be stressed out and de-humanized.

Technically, they are stricter than ours'.

McDondalds in France also serves beer, as does EuroDisney - indeed, it is the French way!

Used to work out of Strasbourg for a while, every lunch time the Machine operators were in the Works Canteen Drinking smile

Safety record was abysmal (Quelle surprise). French equivalent of the Health and Safety guru at the factory, persuaded the management to ban the Alcohol. smile

Result was predictable instant walkout extended strike action. Management caved everyone went back to work HS "Expert" redeployed smile

It is the French way smile
At a client of mine in Netehrlands, at 11am on a Friday morning, a Grosch truck turns up and dumps 20 crates out, paid for by management, and the factory workers start drinking, but carry on working til 4pm!!

They make stuff, using metal guillotines and welding stuff up!! You def dont want a "friday afternoon" thing from there!!

I find it refreshing that in this PC Ha dn E day and age, we can have manager sponsored drunkeness and work!!
