So we're organising the booze ourselves for our wedding. Can anyone with some experience of this give me an idea how much we will need? Don't want to run out, but don't want enough for two weddings! 100-120 guests with reception from 4pm until 1am.

Thanks

We're going to France to buy ours.

All our friends will drink wine and we are going heavy on the red.

Aiming for 1/4 W/R ratio and circa 1.5 bottles a head. Kicking off with Pimms and Champers. Port with the cheese.

Should be plenty and with a bit of luck will stock a cellar for a few years.

Like you don't want to run out, but happy to have red that will keep left over.

What are you going for on beer? Our plan is to get some good local beers (three tuns for her and batemans for me) and that's the biggest concern for over/understocking. Spirits and wine keep better.

Assuming an alcoholic drink on arrival and toasts then 1/3 bottle of table wine per head is normal. Then split 75% white 25% red unless you know you have a definate lean either way or your menu implies otherwise.

Most independents will do sale or return.

On my table last Saturday the red bottle was empty while the white was still unopened. But it was Beef Wellington smile

1/3 bottle per head?! Not at my wedding!

A few slabs to supplement the wine rather than replacing it.

We were going to bring a bar in and not worry about evening drinks, but it started to get complicated and compromised our wine and Port. We weren't prepared to hand over all drinks provision to the bar so have ended up with no bar.

For my wedding last year we provided 1/2 bottle of prosseco per person and then 1/2 bottle of wine with the meal 50 50 split and then a glass of champers for the toast. That was 11- 5 and then the bar was open. I feel we provided more booze than most weddings I've been to but my family tend to drink a lot.

Edit- forgot to say per head included non drinkers/ des drivers so probably more per drinker head.

We're pretty specific about wanting our favourite beers, so doing it ourselves (although the caterers will run the bar). Just concerned that we will have too much or too little beer. Wine will be on sale or return so no worries there - and in any event it can be put in the cellar and drunk later - think 1/3 bottle might not be enough though knowing our friends and family!

went for a day to france via ferry. Drove to Auchen mega market. the wine is cheap, everything else is around the same price. The ferry was doing 25x 500ml kronenberg cans for £11.99 which is an absolute bargain. Regretfully I only bought one. Not sure how many you are allowed if you're going through customs (and get stop checked). ANyone know? I could have filled my boot with another 4-5. hardly with intent to sell/run a business off of.

Try Costco. You can even return the unopened ones.

I'd allow 1/2 bottle of sparkling, 1/2 bottle of white, and 1/2 bottle of red per head.

Plus plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for the kids / drivers. Believe me, this is what people moan about most... rolleyes

Arrival drink or cocktail, then 2/3 of a bottle with a 2:1 white/red ratio. There's a bar serving lager if you want to pay for it.

Take into account drivers, older relatives who might just have one glass with their meal or people like my Mrs who are legless after a glass of champagne. She would only have half a glass of wine knowing she then has champagne for toasts and the rest of the evening to get through. If beer is draught then start with a couple of barrels then have bottled beer to back it up. If it's not opened you've got a stash for the garage.

Despite what people think a wedding is not usually an event where huge amounts of alcohol are consumed. We often make more money from booze at Xmas parties etc than we do on a wedding reception.

We had about 120 people and bought 120 bottles of champagne (H Garnier). We had about 80 bottles of red and 60 bottle of white plus crates and crates of beer.
All bought in France 10 years ago.
It was too much. But it all got drunk in the end. One of my memories of the day were various people walking around drinking champagne directly out of the bottles!

I was told by a friend who had married off five daughters that it had always averaged a bottle a head of wine, plus some bubbly and beers, about 50/50 white/red, so we went with that, and it was only just enough - if there had been more we could and would have drunk it! It does keep, so better to have too much than run out!

56 people, we supplied:

48 fizz
24 red
24 white
48 litres of Pimms (made up, per bottle instructions)
1x drink at the bar per head

In addition to this, the bar sold:

17 fizz
2 litres gin
2 litres vodka
62 pints of beer / lager

Apparently they have parties three times the size, that drink less than half this hehe

I guess it depends how many PHers you have at your wedding! hehe
