I know, somewhat of an oxymoron but bear with me here.

I've just knackered a UPVC windowsill covering because I'm stupid. There may or may not have been fire involved. Anyway, I need to replace it, as it's a newly and beautifully decorated bedroom (which I use as a lounge and place to escape the rest of the house). The window sill is white UPVC stuck on with silicone over the top of the existing wood one (which is one of the crap 80's built houses window sills, so rubbish wood).

I was wondering if anyone had done anything interesting to cover a windowsill? a nice wood or something was my first thought, but as usual imagination got the better of me and I started thinking about more weird and wonderful materials.

Anyone done or know of anything interesting with them other than vinyls, or should I just stop being silly and get the window people in to stick on some more UPVC crap? Interested to hear any ideas.

Take out the plastic crap and put in a nice hardwood one.

You could even use hardwood flooring planks, slot together nicely.

I had considered that. Do the wood ones set in brick come out easily enough? This is just a plastic cap stuck over the top of one of the wood ones, I was planning on just recovering it to save the hassle, but if it's easy enough I don't mind getting a nice piece of hardwood cut or something.

I had actually thought about covering it copper as I can get some pretty interesting finishes, but it's expensive and I'm fairly sure it'd look rubbish, amongst other downsides biggrin

That probably depends how they are fixed in!
It's a mystery how my existing ones were fitted - probably glued, the new windowsills may be flooring. Go into a flooring shop and check out the oak floor packs - the finish is superb and looks great, I was thinking of choosing a couple of wide planks and smoothing off the tongue for the room edge. I'd then probably foam/stick them in place.

I have just used a lovely piece of sandstone for the window sill in my bathroom. Looks very effective and works with the white UPVC window.
