As the title says really, I have not hot water running in the flat. I have checked out the fuse and the light is on where the timer is and it is set to continuous. Can anyone advise me what to try next. I'm no DIY expert so any help would be appreciated.

You need to give more information. At the moment your post is analogous to "my car doesn't work, what's wrong with it?" smile

Combi boiler or separate cylinder?

Sorry, the hot water runs from an Emerson tank (sp) and the switch is on the continuous setting not on timer, checked the main fuse and the light is still glowing red as it should be.

Then at a guess the immersion element has burnt out.

Is the point of entry of the mmersion heating getting hot? If not, I suspect you need a new one.

The tank is a Hot Water Cylinder.

An Immersion Heater is an electrical operated heater that sits in the top or the side of the tank.

Is the Hot Water Cylinder heated using a boiler or with an Immersion Heater?

If its heated with a boiler, common fault if you still have heating is usually a defective zone/mid-position valve, usually a worn out synchron motor

Possibly the timer or maybe even the cylinder thermostat, but most likely a motorized valve.

If the Cylinder is heated solely by an Immersion Heater, first thing to check is that the overheat protection hasn't tripped (if one is fitted).

If you isolate the supply to the heater and remove the cover to the heater, there should be a overheat reset button.

If that is the case, the thermostat is probably not functioning correctly, so may be worth while getting it replaced.

Quick way to check whether or not an Immersion Heater is working is to listen to it, they make a faint buzzing noise when they are on.
