Search Facility.....WTF???

OK I entered the exact title of a thread I was wanting to search for. I know it's the exact title because I was the author.

Previously either of the facilities to search would have pulled it up straight away but now the google one seems to pull up a crock of shti and the PH search is well, not working for me, again.

I entered people who run their own companies and there was a HUGE list of threads, non in the first 2 pages containing any of those words in the title so I gave up as a it seemed a lost cause.

I then entered "people who run their own companies" and the result was "Sorry, No Results Found!".

What the hell have you done to the search facility, Mods? What have you done? Tell me, tell me now. You've broke it haven't you?

Can you either link to the thread on here, or fix the search?

There is such a mine of info on here, it's just a shame the search function never seems to work....

The problem is that with such a large volume of threads, nothing is as good as google. Our own site search just doesn't have anywhere near the indexing or algorithmic power of google, and google's site search isn't as good as their browser based search because they don't want site search to be too good.

So the most effective way of finding the thread is to throw the search string at google in a pistonheads specific search, or by appending the search string with pistonheads.

I think part of the problem may be that previously the google search did exactly what you said.

Yes, previously the Google search simply launched an external Google search box. However Google prefer you to use their site search, which isn't as good as their own search.

Yes, that. The google search used to actually use google search engine to search for things and once you hit search (on here) it went to google and had for example "people who run their own companies" site: www.pistonheads.com now it just appears to list every thread ever made in some random fashion.

It would seem now that you have to remember the exact wording in a 100+ word post to have any chance of finding what you're looking for.

What the hell is the point in that? To deliverately piss people off? I know it isn't much extra effort to open a new tab and use google, but it's unnecessary.

In fact, it is an effort if you don't know how to use search engines to specify what you require.

Can't it be changed back? And if google contact you ask to change then explain why you'd prefer not to?
