Anyone recommend me some trainers to wear at the gym - they must be suitable for both weight training and general cardio.

Will have to come from one of these retailers

http://www.jjbsports.com/
http://www.sportsdirect.com/

I am not a hardcore weight lifter but I understand the main rule is don't wear something that has a soft sole and get something with some support.

As the moment I am wearing soem old astro truf style football trainers. They have a flat sole.

Would be handy if they could double up as general trainers as well!

Personally I don't think it really matters. I just train in a standard pair of trainers and so do most other folk I see training.

For weight lifting you only need worry if you're doing heavy.
I used to squat upto about 140 in reebok classics and about 160 deadlift the same. When I did the next heavier set I'd do it barefoot. If you was dead lifting over 200kg regulary I'd get some proper shoes.

The only time trainers become an issue is when they need to offer stability (running, basketball, etc) or cushioning - in a gym you dont need much of either. Get something comfy.
