Splitter self destructs, fixings advice

My recently fitted splitter went into self destruct mode yesterday as the middle section bent down and made contact with the road (not a nice sound!), taking off a good chunk of the front edge and cracking in many places. It looks like the three centre fixings had gone AWOL, not ripped out, just fallen out. These are the ones that go into the clam reinforcing bar and appeared to be threaded so I just screwed bolts into them, did I get that right and do I just need to use loctite next time?

Hi Rob I fitted big penny washers as well as stainless bolts with a dab of locktight , Tux

I've lost one of those in exactly the same way - it's just disappeared, and I dud them up really tight too!

The center 3 on my US car appear to be threaded into the fiberglass. I fitted very large washers under all the bolt heads, but I don't think it takes much force to rip a bolt out of plastic threads.

Hi Jeff

I don't think so after a quick look. The thread doesn't engage until you have cleared the fibreglass layer on mine. The thread isn't that clean so will tidy up before refitting. The one thing this did prove to me is that the splitter does come under serious loading!
