Conveyancing costs

I'm in the midst of buying/selling home at the moment. It's a three-pronged transaction, buying one (my new property), selling one (my company's staff house) and transferring my current property from me to my company for use as a staff house, so a little more complicated than normal.
I was given three figures from my solicitor at the start of the process, one for each leg of the deal, but having just had the bill for the purchase of my new property, it looks as if the 'quote' has increased by a factor of around 3. We've had a few problems on the way (past planning queries/land ownership), but nothing serious or too time consuming.
I'm hoping the figure is for the complete deal, and wires have got crossed somewhere down the line. Solicitor is shut today, so I can't query, but has anyone here recently bought a house, and can give me an industry average for conveyancing (I know each case is different so not a definitive number)?
