Depends more on which model(s) than panel type.
I have a Samsung LE40C580 which I think is excellent compared to other LCD tvs considering It only cost £400.
I purchased it on the strength of the review from here

I spent ages looking at TV's , in the end went for a Sony Bravia due to its excellent picture quality and user friendly interface. I went for standard as it was a few hundred quid cheaper than the equivalent LED.
Take a look at Richer sounds, you are unlikely to find Sony (or any other brand) cheaper anywhere else.

No such thing as "LED TV" - it's still LCD only with LEDs providing the backlighting instead of CCFLs (cold cathode fluro light).
The former allows for thinner chassis and improved contrast ratio/black levels, but as advised above, go look with movies you're familiar with, but not cartoon/CGI ones.
Something with proper lighting employed, which rules out Avatar!
