Inside the DLM8 Distributor
Discussion
In my on going hunt for the cause of my mystery rev limit issue I took the distributor apart. All was well so I lubed the base plate and bob weights and put it all back together, took some pictures as I thought it may interest some.
We start here pretty much as it came out minus the dust cover.

I removed the distributor drive roll pin and the vacuum, ign module

Everything inside removed

The whole assembly can slide up and out - take care, it's a tight fit and you dont want to damage the brass bearings als, there is a large washer...although it can't go in any other way (you cant see it here)

Here you see the upper and lower base plate. This whole assembly splits in two. They are held in place by a plastic clip which sits in the center of the top of the shaft right under the rotor arm (when fitted)

When you split the two, the advance springs have to be removed and the clip removed from the top then you're left with the bob weights. The shaped plastic washer you see fits on the bottom of the upper plate and must be exactly right or it will stop the bob weights from moving. The Distributor uses a lot of this plastic for vital bits and pieces and it had all gone brittle.

And the upper part from underneath...

I am replying to this for 2 reasons.
Firstly to say well done for posting the pictures, so, Well Done.
Secondly because at some point in the future I will be twiddling around with mine, something will either fall of or I will forget where it went and need a picture, at which point I will remember that you posted pictures and then not be able to find the thread, but now it will be easier to find in my replies
Did it cure your rpm issue?

Not sure of the history of your problem but re the mystery rev limit I might have a possible insight.
Is your car pre-serp with air-con?
My first Chimaera was and on a rolling road session we found it had a map rev limit (cut the fuel as I remember but I could be wrong on the exact way it limited things) designed to stop the A/C belts coming off at high RPM.
It was re-mapped and they never came off.
