Back in Sept 2008 I gave mine it's annual service prior to tucking it up in the garage for the winter.
the following month the company I worked for went down the tubes and there folowed a hectic period of job hunting. This was succesful but not as well paid so the TVR stayed tucked up through 2009. Another job came along last year so I was too busy to give it much thought.
In the meantime, she who must be obeyed had decided that converting the garage into a kitchen would be a good idea. Having not used the TVR for 2 years I didn't have a decent argument against it.
So finally, yesterday I went out to the car had a look round to make sure nothing was broken, leaking or nesting. All seemed fine so I clambered in. Key in, spun the engine with the immobiliser on to make sure the oil pressure came up, it did. Waited a sec, turned everything on, turned the key and she fired firt time and settled down to the usual even tick over! I washed her and drove her round the block to make sure every thing worked and it felt as good as when I last drove it 2 1/2 years ago!
What an awsome car! Why did I agree to sell it?

Hello Simon, Nope not been on here since Sept 08. Just trying to get a feel for the market but having had a go in her and seeing it all polished and lovely on the drive I don't want to sell it now! With any luck no one will want it. Just hope the wife's not a secret Pistonheads member!punch

I am certain that no one will want it, the market is terrible, we are in recession, people are focusing on the Royal Wedding etc. Thats what I would tell the Mrs wink

No the battery's fine. I've had it on a bettery conditioner most of the time. It was covered in dust, cardboard boxes, old sheets, etc. I had to tidy up the garage to get at it!
I'll advertise it once I get it MOT'd but TBH in the current market I doubt I'll get any interest. Still, at least I'll have triedangel

I've been unrelentingly scrutinizing 4.0L Chimaera adverts on a daily basis for a while now, so don't count your chickens just yet! hehe

I've been using mine a little more than that but not much.....1200 miles this last year. paperbag
The used values look all over the place, I've just listed mine and I know on the face of it it looks an expensive 94 4.0l but this time last year I was handing over £4k for a body off refurb and to a serious buyer thats got to be a better long term prospect than a potentially rusty 98 car. wink
Anyway if it doesn't sell I'll just try and use it a little more. driving

Just went back and checked- it looks like it was your advert that I've gone back to several times today since it appeared! hehe

Looks very tidy, and on paper at least is exactly the sort of example im after. From a buyers point of view, and after my experience with a couple i've viewed, I would far rather pay the extra for an example that's had a documented recent body off refurb, even if it means an older example. Unfortunately, I then go and shoot myself in the foot in spectacular fashion by REALLY not being a fan of that particular colour! getmecoat

(And I like them in every other colour ive seen them in! banghead)

Not sure the pictures do the colour justice, I was limited by the pics on my computer that showed the car in it's current spec. paperbag
Funnily enough when I was looking for a Chimaera all those years ago I had said 'any colour except green' and what did I end up with!
And it's replacement....I have said any colour except Silver...guess what colour the car I saw yesterday was..... banghead

It's actually a VW colour, and in all these years of TVR events I've not seen another the exact same shade.

Sign outside a local business summed it up nicely. wink

Great pic!!

That's normally the way it works, my first car was red and I said never again- needless to say every car from then till my ITR has been red... They have always been purchased on overall condition.

Alas, for the money ill be spending on buying & running a Chim, ive decided im letting colour have a bit more of a say this time round! hehe

Saying that, I can very well appreciate that that shade of green looks much better in sunlight than on a computer screen. And im also a BIG big fan of those diamond cut 7-spokes (being an old-school ford fan probably helps there...) - albeit 'ideally' in one size smaller... Me? Picky?... whistle

If I was being picky I'd say it wants 16" RS7's on the front and leave the 17's on the back, somehow they look more balanced like that.....oh and Tuscan seats, if it stays they are on the cards but both are like hens teeth at sensible money. wink

If there is a serious buyer out there that doesn't have it at that price the world has gone mad. IMHO it's worth a minimum 2k more than the selling price.

There are too many people selling these cars too cheap (not a dig, an observation), I think all TVR's are too cheap currently.

Good luck with the sale - that's a lot of car for no money at all. yes

Cheers Mark, if I pitched it at what I think it's worth it'd stand out like a sore thumb and be very hard to generate any interest when there are £6k cars around, but unless these are forced sales and the buyer needs the cash sharpish I'd be checking them over very carefully. wink
Last years bills totalled over £4.5k and the file with every bill from Engine rebuild at 53000 miles to receipts for fan belts for £4 are present.
I think the oldest bit of service history invoices I've got dates back from 1997.
It's been quite scary looking through all the old history, it's like a time line of TVR....a wad of Joospeed invoices, a wad of TVR Autotune invoices, just need to print off all the chassis build photos so I might update the ad in the near future. smile .......or just go out for a drive and make the most of the sun. smile

That's what I just did biggrin

It's a bargain for sure. I have the same kind of 'folder' for mine, was looking through it recently and it's amazing the stuff that's been done or changed that you forget about!

This is an interesting point, if you don't mind me asking why do you think this might be? I know fuel prices have gone north of laughable but is there anything else? I only ask as I was generally quite shocked at the number of Chimaeras for sale around the £10K mark. I was initially looking at S2000's for some weekend summer fun (until being somewhat disappointed upon having a decent drive in one) and was amazed at the number of Chimaeras that could be had for a similar price.

Admittedly I have no real referrence point for how their prices may have moved, as it's only been since the turn of the year that I 'made my mind up' and have started doing serious research on them.

(Appologies to the OP for taking the thread somewhat off-topic).

I've got no basis or reason to my thinking, it just strikes me that being the type of car they are, and the relative rarity of them, the prices would hold up more. It's not exactly as though the market is flooded with them.

I've noticed even sellers these past few months talking prices down and wonder the reasoning behind it. I just think they are cheap as chips at the moment.

Ah fair enough.

I can understand what you mean. I was on the other side of that problem when looking for my DC2 ITR, I was amazed at the money they commanded considering the 'relatively' high number available.

Agreed that the Chimaera represents a LOT of car for the money. Ill make sure I get on board before the rest of the motoring world cottons on...

Thanks for the input. smile
