Can anyone help?

Mrs left the only set of keys for her focus (W reg) in a taxi now they are lost.

Can I buy a fob from ebay and get it coded or is it easier to get it towed to the dealer with V5 in hand and let them do it.

2nd option is £250

Any other options?

It has an immobiliser as far as I know.

Depending on the Taxi firm, give them a call and ask for your keys back. If they don't have them or refuse to give them back to you. New door locks, barrel and immobiliser. While a set of keys are in the public domain you insurance will not payout if (when) your car gets nicked.

Car is now in garage. Trust me, they wont steal it.

They are telling me they cant find the keys.

Whats the cheapest way of starting the car again?

I know what you have said is the best way but they dont know my car reg.

Insurance will never find out the keys are lost....

Depends on the model. You could need a lock set keys and ECU from a scrap car. Should come in at abot £150-£300 for parts and your garage guys will double that depending on the hourly rate they charge.

Can do most stuff myself, just not great with electronics

its a w reg 2.0L

It's all plugs so it should be straight forward enough. Try to get the whole steering colum as the shear bolts are a pain in the cheeks.

UPDATE

Managed to source lock and ECU

Will see what dealer says tomorrow

They should be able to code a key so the other one wont work (the one in taxi)

dealer route should be less hassle than locks, steering crack, ECU, keys etc?

I'm a bit out of touch with this sort of stuff but can't you just get the key part from ford using the reg & VIN number? The little micro chip for the immobiliser is the only thing that needs coding & the main dealer doesn't need to do that, a good independent can do that. While that's being done get the fob part off ebay & you can manually set that yourself once you have a key.

You can but, your insurance will double because there's a key in circulation leaving your car an easy steal.

Insurance don't need to know that.

I bought the car with one key so does that mean insurance should be higher cos there is potentially a key somewhere?
