Only joking......those things are a right handful to drive at full chat......very under-rated muscle cars!

And not at all common either.....I've only seen one on the roads!

Cheaper? Who would pay £50K for a Vauxhall when similar money gets you an M3 with an engine in a different league and superior handling!! If you are talking about the older model then of course they will be cheaper; less desirable cars do not hold their residuals as well, because of less demand from the market.

More Power? Their <70 bhp/litre figure is pathetic, even an E39 M5 designed two decades ago was outputting ~80 bhp/litre from the 5 litre V8. These days with the E60 M5 having over 500 bhp on tap and just over 100 bhp/litre, I am not sure how you can compare the high reving race derived V10, (which essentially puts out 50% more bhp/litre vs. Vauxhalls old-tech American Chevvy big block LSx V8) Chalk & Cheese.

No cereal today ??

Nice of you to quote the HSV E3 which is not the car quoted by either the OP or myself, but carry on its fun smile The words "Bang for your Buck" come to mind wink

Steady on chaps.....we're on holiday!!

Firstly, the E60 M5 is an animal of a car.....driven in anger, with a good driver at the helm, it's pretty devastating, especially when more open bits and straights come in to play. The VXR8 would not live with this....

The thing is though.....most people who own M5s can't really drive them anywhere near their potential (I've got better, but have some way to go).....I have only ever seen two out hooning!!

It's very similar with M3s.....I used to love hunting them down in my old P1 or Evo MR 340 and basically blowing them into the weeds.....every time, without fail.....what fun that was!!

But all the while, I really wanted an M3.....

The OP's relationshio with the VXR8 would appear to be rather similar....I really relate to this.....bang for bucks is a key factor that adds a sense of fun and amusement.

It's all good!

VXR8 is an awsome car no doubt at all! Yes it wouldn;t stand against an E60 M5, but who cares, even if he tried it would have made my day to have a "play" with another car. I like to have a play regardless of the outcome so hats off the OP for having some fun smile

I've an E46 M3 and have 'dabbled' with an 07 plated VXR8.

I thought it may leave me for dead with all that more torque and 70 bhp but it didn't, in fact, i'm sure I had the edge as we got close to three figures!

Is it stock? According to those figures it is only losing 10% transmission loses from engines to rear wheels via an auto box! Very Impressed. Or it could be putting out more than the 425 bhp quoted? Would like to see the dyno graph to get an insight into how that beast delivers the power smile

if its all about "bang for buck" then how about 0-60 less than 3 secs, 180 odd mph, £5000, av it.

what im trying to say is that we all dont buy for speed, quick and powerful is good, but why does everyone think that a m3/m5 driver thinks he is the quick'st car on the road and want to race you all the time?

I think the M3/M5 is a "benchmark" car and bmw have it spot on.

No it isn't,I've had a Wortec exhaust a better air filter and a cam fitted.;)If I can work out how to get the graph posted I will.If you go to the hsv monaro forum and look at the dyno day thread you'll see a couple of cars with a bit more than that.

I am a big fan of the Monaro and if I did not have my e39 M5 I would have one. The e60 is just too big but that v10 is a wonderful engine.

old tech? just because its a ohv setup does not mean its 'old tech' the ls3 is one of the most advanced pushrod engines in the world. yes its cheap to build but that was the whole point.

reliable simple power. how many vxr8/monaro owners do you see taking out extended warrantys for there cars?

mines cheap as chips to run for the power, regular 95 fuel no probs. and it puts down 300whp 320wlbs on a rototest. not bad for a dinosaur ls1 with a map and CAI.

ps....they are all smallblocks so please do some research before making rubbish statements.

I was behind a Bathurst edition once on the M4, the sound it made was epic.
