Scam or not ?? Would you buy a car with out a viewing ?

Hi i have got a car for sale on ph & a chap has contacted me with the view to buy the car, however hes too busy to view the car & wants to pay by paypay or bank transfer its ringing my alarm bells
Its early days yet so im trying to find out more info on the person & im waiting for his reply to my last email as i mentioned the scam word

I wouldn't, no.
I had the same thing when selling my Land Rover. Guy did a BACS transfer into my bank, I checked my balance on line, then called the bank and double checked the payment could not be reveresed (it can, but only on the same working day, and your bank has to be part of the fast pay scheme to make the actual payment happen within 24 hours). All went well, he came and picked the car up and I never heard from him again (and I still have the money!).
You should not need to give anything other then bank account number, sort code and name for the bank transfer. If he starts asking anything else (e.g. D.O.B.) be suspecious, remember he'll soon have your address too so you need to be a bit carefull.

That said i have had several images, i have spoken extensivly to the current owner and also the places which looks after it which has known the car from new. Every question i wanted to know has been answered- good and bad.
I have also bought an m3 like this, a couple of work vans etc etc.
I'm happy doing things like this, i don't want to waste peoples time and i don't want to waste my own. You just have to be careful and have a bit of knowledge.
When i sold my evo it went to a guy in malta, every thing he said sounded like a scam. I said if your 'man' takes me into a bank and i can watch him withdraw the cash you can have it. He did this and the deal was done so you just have to be aware of what can go on, theres no way i would have accpeted anything but cash though!

I've bought a quite a few cars unseen, sometimes I've gone to pick them up, but mostly I find it easier to pay somebody else to put it on a lorry and bring it to me. when you add up the price of petrol the time it takes, dinner out ect it isnt all that much more.

It is a shame that crap like this happens, from the other side I am genuine but currently trying to buy a car remotely, I will be collecting in person but happen to be abroad 6k miles away, and wanted to buy it having been let down on others. Seller seems a thoroughly nice chap, but hasn't accepted any of my offers despite them being IMO very fair, one made by phone, one increased one by PM, (due time diff) and very close to his asking price. I get the impression if I was able to make them in person, they would have been accepted. I can understand the trepidation, due to all these scammy w
kers, but it is a proper pisser for genuine buyers who are away or just a long way away.
In this internet age, if you advertise on the net and look to buy on the net, it is something that you have to put up with, but it is crap for all the genuine parties (buyers and sellers) out there.

NEVER accept payment for a car by PayPalI sold a Mini Clubman ice cream van on eBay and got a message in Japanese. The chap was a collector of small cars because of how the laws are in Japan if you can not prove you have somewhere to park you can only drive a small or micro car. Anyway money was transfered into my account minutes after the auction ended and two days later a chap turned up put the car in a crate and took straight to the nearest port. The car sold for twice what I was expecting as well.
