My first vmax, can i have the do's and don'ts please??
Discussion
Hi guys, this is my first vmax event, im very very excited, this will be a great chance to pit my supercharged z4m against some much more expensive machinery... i was wondering if the guys and girls that attend vmax reguarly could shoot me some VMAX do's and don't so i can be sure not to put a foot wrong on the day.
All in all really looking forward to my first vmax and meeting everyone, and having nose at the exotica on the day!!
My car is going for a major service just a week before vmax with some added parts to my s/c system( stage 2), hopefully the car will be ready on time, if so i will be attending in my 515bhp supercharged z4m( if not my TT S)...... looking forward to meeting you all.
p.s am i going to look like a complete knob wearing a helmet?

Do:
- have a great time; it is difficult not to.
- come and say hello to everyone - it is a great social event.
- ask for passenger rides if you want to - most are very accommodating.
- check your car carefully before the day: tyres (condition and pressures), brakes, fluids etc.
- build up slowly through the day; there are no prizes for outbraking yourself on the first run and ending up embedded in the earth bank.
- ask questions of anyone if you're unsure.
- remember it's not the going fast that kills you - it's the inability to stop.
Don't:
- try and show what a perfect drift merchant you are around the final bend into the waiting area; it will end in tears.
- try and get the fastest run of the day through the traps first time out - learn how well you can slow from high speeds first.
- compromise safety in any way - either yourself or others.
- invite all your mates to come along and see how fast you can go - the limit on spectators is your passenger
- worry overly - hundreds of people have had fantastic days in complete safety.

jeremy... AWESOME, that was exactly the type of post i was hoping for, thankyou for taking the time to write this, i will live by these rules!!
As Re the stopping i have 6pot front and 4 pot rear 370mm AP racing brakes!! stopping is what my car does best BUT.... i completely understand you, i need to determin HOW the car brakes from big speeds, to building up is the best way to do that, i had planned to just turn up literally take things at my own pace!!
Again thankyou very much......

As the day wears on you'll get faster to the bottom bend. I always allow the other car to lead and not race them so it prevents me from outbraking myself (Unless there is a large speed differential that is)
As you are supercharged, take it easy to the runway to keep your intake temps as low as possible or you'll pull timing on the run.
Stay in your lane through the bend, there have been plenty of cracked windsrceens and chipped paint where people have cut across.
Come say hello and I'll run you out in mine

Also very importantly stay the hell away from the back of any other cars! The track has a LOT of gravel on it and you will end up with a nicely new pepppered front end! Other than that overyone here is right, it's a very friendly and fun day out
I'm also looking forward to seeing how your beast goes, make sure you come find me on the day!
I'm also looking forward to seeing how your beast goes, make sure you come find me on the day!ok i definatly want to be able to avoid stone chips, so ill 100% keeping my distance, and HOLD MY LANE,
cheers guys!! defo looking forward to coming and chatting to everyone, REALLY hoping to get away at the end of the day with minimal stone chipping and no cracked windscreen, lol!!
Cant wait to see all the exotica!!
the first run ill do is definatly going to be a slow Exploration lap to learn the the avoid points on the track!!
Re the point on keeping the AITs down, im adding a larger fmic, large capacity oil cooler, and some trick gauges to keep an eye on things during the prolonged runs... im guessing the day will be very hard on the brakes so ill be jacking the car before hand to double check all hoses, connections, pads and rotors. ALL in all very excited and praying the car is ready in time and the weather is good!! Rain is not nice with my ps cups....
m5 mark im usually very gentle with getting the car off the line, but once on the move it hauls big time, i wont be concentrating on launch the car ect ect as i want to be able to drive home at the end of the day and dont want to abuse the car, im hoping to grab afew runs with people who are willing to get to the 30mph marker and accelerate hard from that point, running with an m5 in such fashion would be awesome!!
i was REALLY hoping to get a run in some proper exotica and then take those guys out in my car as reference, my little z4///m hasnt got mnay bmw parts on her anymore!! lol
i WILL be watching my wideband gauge like a hawk!!

I'm with you on the slightly more gentle starts. I always think it's a great comparison to come out of the first corner TOGETHER and get a real measure on straight acceleration, but then i WOULD say that I'm lugging 2 ton of 4 door family car around
BUT it would be rude not to use launch control a couple of times

Another Vmax virgin here too. Interested in running with others who would like to lane keep and minimise stone chip chances. Apart from that I could be so far behind that any gravel raised will have settled back to the ground by the time I get there. Some sounds advice here, so thank you for sharing.

Crash helmets not compulsory - - but how many people wear them anyway?
ref stonechips, I have just posted this elsewhere..
as you'll all know from the briefing (if you have been before), we emphasise that you must stick to the lane you're set off in and not deviate from this. This is reiterated when you are set off by the marshalls. I set this rule from the very first vmax.
If someone changes lane then yes the chances for stonechips to occur increase but brunters is huge and you shouldnt be near the rear of another car at all.
