Options - Have I missed something?

Situation is this - bought a stop gap KA a few years ago when my MX5 started playing up (yes, it does happen!) which has been fine for the majority of driving I do - BUT great as it is for flinging about without much of a care I do miss something with a little more poke...
I can probably get about 2-3K in PX for the KA, and could spend another 7/8K comfortably. Not particularly fussed with space, only do about 5K miles a year, not mechanically minded so needs to be reliable.
I've considered the following small and zippy type cars:
Panda 100hp - driven one or two, was impressed. Similar chuckability in town to the KA, a bit more zip.
Fabia VRS (MK1) - Liked the low down grunt of the diesel, quite compliant over the dodgy roads (unlike the Panda)
Ibiza FR (Diesel) - As above I guess...
All of the above are well within budget, smallish and with a decent amount of go. Newer, but in the same sort of vein are below:
Fabia VRS MK2 - Driven, impressed with the engine and comfort. Good deals still available on the VAT back offer
Twingo RS - Not driven, but excellent write ups
Mini Cooper S (R53) - Driven, liked the supercharger whine, and the go-kart is handling - seemed pretty well built
Other potentials were:
Porsche 944 (s2) - A LOT older, would need specialist servicing (potential £££!)
Porsche Boxster - As the S2, just a bit newer
MX5 Mk3 - Driven and liked the RC, but it's "going back" to something I've had before
BMW 325ti / 330i - Driven both, liked the engines - smooth and with a decent amount of low down grunt
Appreciate it's a bit of a mixture, but have I missed anything "obvious"?

Personally I think you would be best off narrowing down what you're after first as considering a Twingo, MX5, 944 & 330i is a pretty broad spectrum!
Fair point - it has crossed my mind! I guess "Fun" is the most important aspect, fun over the usual mix of crappy inner city roads and the occasional longer A / B road runs through the country...tallstevef said:

You seem to like convertibles so how about the S2000 - fast, agile and revvy, reliable too. Not sure how many miles you'll be doing for mpg to be a concern (about 28-30 IIRC)? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
