Engine Heat

Have been worried about engine temp and have been keeping an eye on water level.Thought it might be my fault as possibly the cap might not have been tightened up enough But now have found that the battery cover is burnt where it goes between the manifold and water pipe .Not sure how to stop this or if the cover is on the right side of pipe or not ,think whatever side it goes it gets B/Hot.Will have to book in to The Garage and get it sorted before Chatsworth.

Well as you say, the cover sits next to the manifold which is a rather hot thing! My cover is also mildly singed at that point but my engine runs no hotter than anyone elses. I have thought about attaching some reflective heat shield to that small fin of bodywork, may be something for you to consider. I have just popped out to have a look and my cover sits behind the water pipe, not between the pipe and the manifold. (This is on a 98 4.2, the scuttle panel may be different on later models)

What sort of temperatures are you getting on the temperature gauge? It may not be completely accurate but it should give a indication as to whether you are running hot? Does your fan cut in where expected?

Temp daes not drop below 90 and at the moment on these hot roads its probably nearer 95.Have checked fans come on and a while ago fitted a cooling chip.
Its the smell of heat that concerns me with a long journey coming up will see what Dave has to say at the Garage and top up with wet wet Liquid.Good to know at least the cover is on the right side.
Just hope i get the car back for the next bank holiday and its super car sunday
