Brake Pipe fittings

Very close to completing my chassis/wishbone overhaul and getting the griff out for the first time since September - praying that summer has not been and going in April!! I have bought some Hel braided hoses for the brakes to find two of the pipes for the rear do not have femail end fittings to go on the calliper. Each pipe has male only fittings??

My first reaction was fing ws wait till I ring them! Then I thought about it and they could be shut until Tuesday next week But having thought about it for a bit more why would they make a length of pipe with two male ends - what would it fit? The male fitting is the same thread in to the calliper and the kit comes with lock nuts and washers to tighten it down. I have not come across this kind of fitting before - is this likely to be the answer or have I just got the wrong pipes and I am looking for a solution I aint going to find??

Just got the brakes to bleed and shes off the ramps for the first time since September. Hoorah!! Except no answer to above - any thoughts?

When i put my on they were male on both ends. The male end just fits straight into the caliper.

Pressumably you tighten them up and then use a lock nut onto the copper washer?

Ian, sorry i`ve given you duff info, was thinking of the front. the rears on mine were male end where they fit to the copper break pipe and the caliper end is a banjo bolt fitting with two copper washers. It would seem you have the wrong hoses.

Probably because I fitted the banjos to the front, one of us has them the wrong way round but the same principle applies. I will check with the makers tomoz, if they are open!

Ian - were they the right length for a straight fit or did you need to use a lock nut and washer to shorten the lenth on the front pipes??

Hi Ian, i got mine from TVR power. Front and rear were both a good fit. I didnt have to shorten anything. The rear ones were banjo fitting at the caliper and the other end was a domed single flair. The front ones were a domed single flair at both ends. Re your struggling to bleed the front brakes have you still got the banjo fitting pipes on the front. These should go on the rear calipers. Could be your problem.

I have changed them round now and fitted banjos to rear - I will fit my old original pipes to the front to see if this solves the problem.

Yep wrong pipes! Fitted originals on front and problem sorted. Should be out for the first time in 6 months within a couple of hours!!
