Hi

Yesterday I decided to look at my SEAC brakes, the reason for this, is I have had a couple of moments when the brake pedal went soft!

The resulting look made us decide to change the brake fluid and about time too!

We blead the front's first!

yuck

That's just from the front's.

We then started on the rears and the problem is the bleed niples are so close to a chassis cross beam you could not get a pipe on them let alone undo them!

Has anybody had this problem and how did you get round it!

With just the front's being bleed and fluid replaced the pedal was a lot more positive.

But that was only a minor problem. We found the side body mountings above the suspension were broken (Both sides) This would be a MOT fail!

yikes

We also thought the front mountings looked even for TVR a bit micky-mouse just a poorly bent stip of metal!

I would be intersted in pics of the same brackets on other SEAC's for comparison!

What yesterday has done it has made the body of restoration a lot closer!

Don't know on SEACs, but the rear brakes on mine only have one bleed nipple (UK passenger side) that can be accessed without too much trouble....
The rest remains put and the fluid is going from the caliper it enters to the second via a pipe.

I thought you were supposed to bleed furtherest away first .. you could always cut an access panel in the boot smile

Not a SEAC but my body mounts failed on the rear and settled on the chassis but passed the MOT like that. The body was considered secure enough to satisfy the MOT. It was fixed anyway.

Mr T

Ill take some pics on the weekend of my front mounts on my SEAC.
Thats realy bad colour of fluid, ive been told you should change out the fluid every 2 years or so.
I tend to bleed the calipers when servicing the car then top up the bottel.
Cheers

Andy - you remembered to push the pistons back in when changing the fluid? Gets all the last bits of gunge out.

That looked more like Guinness than brake fluid!!!

Adam it's more like brown Windsor soup, I was thinking of sending it to Buck house for the soup starter for Fridays big day!

Can you get a Steve Heath remote bleeder onto it?

Or else loosen off one of the pipes (Leigh taught me that trick) and bleed out of the union.

Dont forget if the body mounts are not securely fastened then cracks will start to appear in the body work joints .. like around the head lights etc.

Yes that would make sense. I am looking at doing a repair in situ before it's next MOT.

As I posted it's brought the body off restoration a lot closer than planned!

only if using a pressure bleed system, and not perfect solution as your still have some old stuff in one of them.
