she wont start!

Hi All.....any pointers.

I drained down the tank and renewed the cradle..put her back together and filled up, she started and ran whilst I polished her up for her MOT...come the morning got her out of the garage then she cut out...turns over, full spark and it appear no fuel? tested the fuses ok and checked the pump...seems to be no power?...(2.9 S3) is there a inertia switch or relay I am not locating? Any ideas on where to start?

Fuel pump relay is apparently a regular? Not had this myself but I'm sure the search function will bring up a few threads

have looked through some of the past feeds...but no joy yet! seems there is no pressure at the rail and seems no power to the pump....fuses are fine so I suppose I need to replace the yellow relay (not sure how to test it!) I assume I could disconnect the two pump wires and connect them up directly to the battery to test the pump?

Yep, check the fuel relay under the glove box. There is a very small resistor on the top of it and it gets loose being shaken about when driving. Probably needs soldering back to the post at one end. Should fix it as the sysptoms are spot on. Good luck.

Although a little confused....I have a bright yellow ford relay independent from those on the fuse box and then a brown looking thing with a brown removable relay? and a orange wire spade connector loop...then I have just found a purple block with a separate fuse....cant seem to find any of these in the bible?....is it any of these or do I still need to keep looking?

The Brown one Nick. Should have a little resistor on the top which I think you will find is loose and making/breaking circuit meaning your pump is powered one minute but not the next. Cheers, Tim

I've never understood what the Purple fuse holder is/does - mine has a 30 amp fuse in it ? I cant see what goes off when the fuse is out ?

I dont have a brown or any other colour resistor near the fuel pump relay or anywhere else that I can see.

I know that doesnt help you my friend but I thought I would mention it...

oh hell...this is getting frustrating...thought I had solved it as the "brown" relay had a charred corner....replaced it £23 bloody quid!....but still no joy put a meter on the pump feeds and there is now a supply....still no chattering so have resorted to stripping out the pump and filter and will check out the pump tomorrow (mainly as I swamped the garage with petrol!)...Trouble is I have re-read Tims advice and realized when I had the ignition on the power came on to the pump then switched off? on turnover power seemed to stay on? so now a bit worried that it may be the diode thing although it looks like the terminals are all secure.

Normally the pump will come on for a few seconds when you switch the ignition on, and then go off. When you start cranking the engine it will come on again and stay on as long as the engine is turning and for a couple of seconds afterwards. Hence it can be a bit tricky chasing electrical problems as the pump isn't powered all the time.
