Had a little issue with the floormat yesterday and momentarily overrevved the engine, possibly 7.5 - 8k. It was for a fraction of a second at part throttle between gears and when it happened I killed the engine on the stop button.

Since then I have driven 50 to 60 miles further - at first very gently then using up to 6000 rpm and occasional full throttle. The engine sounds no different. Any advice, anyone experienced similar?

Also is anyone aware of the spec of the rod bolts, valves and valve springs?

Doesn't the ECU limit revs? Or is the red light just a warning?

TBH, if it didn't blow up, and you still driven it, I'd stop worrying about it. Little you can do now save for a preventative rebuild, seems slightly overkill if it seems ok to me biggrin

I would assume the has done it on a down shift (witht he pedal comment), so no electronic protection

That sounds like good news, have buzzed it a couple of times on track missing gears
and lived to fight another day. I don't think theres an electronic limit but as soon
as I get the chance I was going to have it set up on the RR at raceproved and will find
out for sure then.

AFAIK this was discussed on here before and the red light is just a warning and not a limiter.

The only thing that limits revs is the fuel map itself. There is a big hole around 7,750 where the fuel map is set to zero through the whole of the throttle range. But I have seen maps (including my 4.2) where after a gap of 1000rpm or so the fuel starts again. So if you manage to rev it past the zeroed map there is nothing to stop it except the stop button (or mechanical failure).

The buzzer/light is just a warning signal. It has its own map to signal when it should be turned on completely independent of the ignition and fuelling.

Red light is a warning only, 7500RPM will be fine.

ooh this is interesting. I have seen the red light a few times and insta-shifted - glad I didn't try and bounce it off the limiter, thought it didn't seem as abrupt to limit as my old m3 biggrin

Only bugger now is that I can't start the old girl as my starter has packed up. Damn thing. Grrrrr. anger....

I actually had the red light come on briefly in mine this evening.

The car broke traction in second under hard acceleration and the revs shot up before I could lift off.

What I also discovered at the time is that there is actually a buzzer in mine that sounds when the light comes on.

Is this buzzer in all of them as well (not that I plan on pushing it that far too often ..... just in case) ?

Should be a buzzer in all of them, IIRC you can change them too, cant remember how. Under 8k is fine, ours doesn't breath well enough to do much more than 7.5krpm, so we've got the buzzer set to 7250krpm. The fuelling is there up to 7800, then there is a gap, then it starts again at 9krpm!!! It will not be able to rev that high without an absolutely awful downshift though... we tried fuelling all the way up to and beyond nine to see if it would rev further than the 7.5krpm ours seems to be limited to, it wouldnt, but for the most part, you're best to keep below 7krpm, although it is generally accepted that they're ok up to 8 occaisionally.

I can only think of one occaision where we go beyond 7krpm, but its safe basically, I guess ours is rather well balanced for the way it has shrugged off our mileage, but I've heard of a few that are out a fair amount in terms of balance internally, so its best to keep to a sensible 7krpm max IMHO... I am sure those with custom built/balanced engines can probably see 8+ safely!!

Our T350C revs to 7800 (sp6), but it needs to, just to keep up with the Cerb. heheevil

Cheers for the replies gents, have now fastened the floormat down. In four and a bit years
never had a problem like this - my driving must be getting worse.
