Lost jewellery, what are my options?

My wife and I were on holiday in Portugal last week, we returned yesterday. Just a short break. Flew out last Tuesday, it was her birthday last Wednesday.
Last Monday I went to Beaverbrooks and bought her a pair of earrings; white gold with tiny diamonds, at a cost of £295.
Nice morning on Wednesday, gave her a card and the prezzie, all good. She remarked that one of the little clasp thingies was a bit less tight than the other but wore them anyway. Indeed she had them on continuously until yesterday.
We were already on the plane when she turned to me, ghostly white. "Oh shyte, I don't believe it"....
The right earring was gone. Frantically we searched all the surrounding area, under the seats, all the cubby holes etc to no avail. She now thinks it may have come off when she was asked to remove her jacket at airport security, because she somehow remembers her collar hitting her ear. It was about then she said she had kept them on for fear of me thinking she didn't like them
Anyway, to cut a ramble only slightly shorter, I want recompense
It being a bank holiday today I couldn't do anything.
I have contents insurance of course (Esure). I also have a Royalties Gold account with RBS which provides travel insurance.
Who should I go with do you think? I haven't yet read (or indeed found) either of these companies documentation.
Next question, I don't think I have any recourse with Beaverbrooks but I intend to let them know about their poor quality control methods. Or do you think I may have a case? I was offered their insurance at the time and declined. What is the point when I've got home content cover?

I never thought of that. I used my Barclaycard.
Anyway, I contacted Esure today; they say I'm covered but asked me to contact RBS Royalties travel insurance. They are going to send me out forms so they can assess my claim ie think about it...
Also, each company, whomever settles, will be asking the other to go halves I'm told. Reciprocal agreements and all that.
I also had to contact Lothian and Borders Police to get a lost property incident no. What a palaver! "Hello there, can you send a couple of your BiB to the Algarve and see if they can find my wife's earring please?"
Anyway, it seems I'm covered, or at least the claim is going to be assessed. Bloody 50 quid excess on both policies though

A few years back the wife lost a "nostalgic" gold braclet at Heathrow on a BA outbound flight to Dubai. We mentioned it to the cabin crew and they said best we reported it when we got back to the UK, which we did. We then got a call from Heathrow to say it had been found in the departure lounge! Had to be collected in person from Heathrow, not really a problem as we're about an hour's drive away.
So, I'd recommend that you find a way to report the loss to the departure airport in Portugal and see if it turns up and if so you can get it repatriated.
