Morning

Advice please:

Have had these flights quoted at me for my October trip to USA - flying in to San Fran and out of Vegas. Three things - do they sound about right price-wise, secondly should I risk BA due to them always threatening strikes plus which is better, service wise?

VS19 22OCT LHR - SFO depart 1300 arrive 1550
VS44 30OCT LAS 0 LGW depart 1735 arrive #1035

Economy both ways - £813.73
Out Premium, back economy - £1036.73
Premium both ways - £1386.73

BA 285 22OCT LHR - SFO 1130/1420
BA 274 30OCT LAS - LHR 2110/#1405

Economy both ways - £752.73
Out Premium, back economy - £997.73
Premium both ways - £1121.73

Cheers all

The problem is that in previous strikes BA ran a full long haul service and a significant % of short haul out of LHR and that should not be forgotten.

If you go the BA route you do need to make sure that your travel insurance will cover you, which is where it gets complicated.

For example if your flight is cancelled, then you can have a full refund or be rebooked on the soonest available flight. EU regulations apply.

The problem comes regarding all the consequential costs if you go for abandonment, and your insurer will require proof from the airline that the delay would have been more than twelve hours, also will most likely only consider claims if cancellation made at short notice and that you bought your flights and travel insurance before you knew about any strikes. This imo you can't do now.

So conclusion is avoid BA until the dispute is resolved, which if the union officials have their way will be never.

HTH.

A quick play on expedia (you can do different arrival and departure airports using the multiple flight search) shows economy flights you want on the days you want for £668 using a combination of Continental, United and BMI, it is a little cheaper (£25) if you fly mid-week rather than weekend. Obviously this option is cheaper than what you've found and removes the BA strike element.

Premium economy bumps the price up significantly, I wouldn't bother myself but that's really a matter of personal choice. I now avoid BA wherever possible, their service is shoddy and the strike factor would cause me unnecessary stress.
