Hi All

At the moment I have 3 cars, A 55 subaru legacy Bspec. a 00 Wrangler Jeep and a 96 Merc SL500, currently I pay about £1600 for all 3 on an Admiral Multicar policy. As the insurance will soon be due for renewal I've been calling round to see if i could get a better deal, what I've found is that individually the best i can do is about £1K for the Subaru and £500ish each for the Merc and the Jeep. What I found interesting is that i was told the age of the car has more effect on the insurance premium that anything else.

So my question is would the insurance on say a 5 year old 300BPH car be much different to a 15 year old 300bhp car, assuming they both cost about the same price today?

Im a 53yo company director with 1 years no claims if that makes a difference.

Older cars have less effective safety systems than newer cars - smaller brakes, probably no ABS/stability control, probably no airbag, less effective crumple zones and so on.

Probably. Different safety features mean the car can be easier to write off vs cost of fixing body parts wink
Also, older cars are generally easier to pinch frown

Thats what I would have thought, but my SL500 and Subaru are both worth about the same money, yet the SL500 is half the price of the Subaru to insure ?
