TAXI's

A group of Taxis has taken to gathering outside my house whilst waiting fOr their next job, sometimes in the day there can be 5 of them outside all stood around talking leaving their engines running.


Am I being a whingy arse letting this bother me or if they were all outside your house would you ask tem to find somewhere else to park?
I would not mind bud a couple of streets behind me is a Sainsburys which is always dead so its not as if there are not places they can park.

I think it might be worth mentioning it to the companies involved rather than individual taxis as you'd be there all day and increase the chance of confrontation.

Is this in Lancaster per chance?

Morecambe.... And yeah I was thinking of ringing up the taxi firms or maybe the council?

Are they all from the same company?

Maybe they got kicked out of Sainsbury's car park and need somewhere to wait, but the least they could do is turn off their engines. I work in Richmond and there's regularly a line of cabs down the high street, in a bus lane, with double yellows all with the engine running. Why don't traffic wardens do anything about it?

You can ask them to move but ultimately you don't own the public highway in front of your house so don't have any control over its use. Having said that taxis may be governed by some other regulatory power and only meant to wait in designated ranks. It may be worth speaking to the Council, assuming they are the taxi licencing authority.

See what response you get from the companies first. I'd have thought the council's first question would be along the lines of 'Have you spoken to them?'.

Woman next door to me works nights too, and she cant leave her window open in the day if its hot due to the noise from the engines and them laughing and joking throughout afternoon.

I've wondered this too, it seems to be a taxi drivers thing to leave their engines running.

With the cost of diesel these days you would think they'd shut the engines down if they're not moving for a while.

I thought there was a law that said they must run their engines whilst waiting for customers.
But, normally i am wrong.

I've actually seen the opposite- drivers near the back of the rank pushing their cab forward when the cab at the front gets a fare rather than starting the engine to move it forward a car length.

A quick call to the local licencing office will give you the information you need.

great idea, but order 4 just to watch them all race!!

I'd speak to the companies first, going straight to the council could put people's backs up enough that more cabs end up parking on the road outside your house.
