Hi guys,
I’m looking for a bit of knowledge on the 307cc.
It’s not for myself, it’s for my gf’s mum who is looking for a 4 seater convertible but doesn’t want anything flash (I’ve told her to go for an e46 m tec sport but she doesn’t like BMW’s).
We’ve looked at Astra’s, Focus’s and the 307.
The 307 is at the top of the list so far, we’ve found a couple which look good.
1) 57 plate, 10k miles, no optional extra’s, was a motability car and is from a dealer with 12 months warranty.
2) 08 plate, 20k miles, every optional extra (upgraded sound system, full leather, sat nav etc), 1 lady owner from new and being sold privately.
It has to be automatic (she can’t drive manuals) so as you can imagine, the performance and handling isn’t exactly high on her list of priorities.
Out of the cars she’s interested in I think the 307 is probably the best overall package it terms of styling, especially the interior, the roof on the 307 definitely seemed the quickest and most robust and it has the most space in the back but is there any gremlins we should be aware of?
Anyone got any knowledge on 2nd hand car warranties? Out of the 2 cars above I’d be going for the one with all the extra’s but they seem to be more interested in the one from a dealer with less miles as it has a warranty… I’m guessing the warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s written on and shouldn’t be a major plus point over the private car… Anybody know what companies offer the most comprehensive warranty covering things like the roof?
Are there any models / facelifts / upgrades which we should be keeping an eye out for???
If anybody can offer anymore information on better alternatives that would be good too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a look (years ago) at the Megane with the metal folding roof. It was ok but i hate CC's now.
Anyway, i recall top gear looking at them, and due to the roof, they are amazingly heavy, and as such very very slow. Whether that matters, i dont know.
You also didnt list a budget, but now is a bad time due to weather. Take a look at the Saab 93. Not the most reliable car at times, but the convertibles are (at least the new shape anyway) 6 years old. I reckon you'd get a bargain.

I've owned 4 Pugs, my old man has had aboout 3 times that and the biggest repair between us was a new com 2000 port on his 307 which was £180 approx. In fact thats the only repair he's had to it in 4 years of ownership. I've had 2 307s in the past and the biggest repair for me was a new washer pipe.

t" brigadeUnless she's 16 stone and specifically looking for a car with a fatter a**e than herself, it would be prudent to steer her away from the 307 and towards something like aforementioned 9-3 convertible (04-on) which does seem to fit the bill perfectly being a non-flash convertible cruiser thing with a touch of class and few known weaknesses. If it's got to be a folding metal roof, the Volkswagen Eos might be worth a look.
I, probably like alot of ph'ers used to love Peugeots but am sadly let down by their current offerings, but we wanted a open top motor for our honeymoon in France a few years back and it was the only (affordable) choice for hire so we booked it. It was ok to drive and felt solid enough despite being a rental hack that had covered 30k miles in 18 months! I'd happily recommend it to someone wanting open top fun and 4 seats and the roof was so easy to use and was completely sealed when closed

MX5 - I've tried talking her in to a 2 seater (MX5) but they insist in 4 useable seats (even though they have a Shogun Sport and a Volvo estate at the moment... not sure which one will get the chop when a convertible is bought).
Saab - She hates them.
Volvo - He (GF's dad) likes them, she (GF's mum) doesn't. She always wins!
Focus - Bloody uncomfortable in the rear so not as good as the 307.
So... warranties!?
