Hello just wondered if have any recommendations of where I could get my watch bracelet polished I am currently doing a deal on. It has some minor marks and would like these to be removed if possible watch is a Hydroconquest and an example of sort of marks I mean is shown bellow.

You'll get most of those out with a Cape Cod cloth & a bit of elbow grease

Is Cape Cod OK on brushed steel? I seem to remember reading somewhere that care has to be taken with brushed, and the Conquest bracelet has brushed links in it (not obvious from the photo).

The bracelet looked polished to me, hence my recommendation.

On brushed SS I use Garyflex blocks.

Looks to be the same bracelet as my Longines, polished centre links with brushed outers. Will bare in mind those recomendations though, I've got a slight mark on the brushed part of the case...

On a highly polished surface I'd just use Cape Cod and keep the block for brushed only and use it in the direction that the steel has been brushed in, though I hasten to add that I haven't used either before and am just going by what I recollect from other threads. I think that the block would be too harsh for a swirl free polish.

A Garryflex is very straightforward to use. I use a blue for 99% of applications, just brush in the direction of the grain. By the look of the image the part you'll have trouble with is the small area in between the polished centre links, even trickier if the PCL's are domed.

A good watchmaker would probably charge about £50-60 to strip the watch down and re-finish properly.

Hope this helps.

DH

Sorry Dom but could you confirm as to if the right grade of Garryflex would also be OK on polished links and not just brushed? May need to invest in some myself. Thanks

Hi Stuart,

You only use Garryflex to matt finish a surface, and use the Cape Cod on the polished surfaces.

Hope this helps,

D
