high revs

hi guys out in the griff on sunday and she decided to play up for the first time on the outward journey she was fine but on the way home when i dipped the clutch the revs would stay very high so pulled over after a time the revs would go down to tick over but had to do this three times but when i got home she sat and ticked over in the drive as sweet as a nut cleaned stepper motor went out again and still a problem (shes a 92 4.3 bv)any ideas please

If its not the stepper it can be throttle pot out of adjustment, or the TVR speedo recalibration unit producing a speed signal even though the car is stationary,(dodgey TVR electronics) so the ECU holds the idle high. I dont know if all TVRS have these however.....

Mine did this whenever the ecu and/or battery were disconnected. It resets the ecu or something and takes a while to re-learn when you've stopped and it's time to drop the idle. Before you try 'fixing' anything, leave it for a dozen run outs or so - it may well disappear.

Could be heat related. Try relocating your ECU somewhere cooler in the footwell, instead of jammed down the side of the battery box.

Try cleaning the seating of the stepper, as well as the nose of the stepper.

I had similar problem last year turned out to be sticking trottle cable, oiled /greased everything, not been a problem since.
