Not convinced by the "not susceptible to wear" part. There are plenty of parts in a car that have no moving parts, are insulted from extreme heat/cold/vibration and they still break.

Think this was posted when BBC ran the article a few days ago.

It certainly is interesting and proves there is life in the combustion engine yet. Too many oil cartels relying on it for it to be replaced by electric power...

If it gives us more efficiency and thus potential for more power, I'm all for it...but...what happens when you if goes wrong and you get a misfire - you then need a "qualified" person to replace a laser pod at a three figure cost no doubt... as opposed to the humble spark plug costing a few quid...

Nah, the BBC article said that each plug could have three separate beams, so with two plugs the Alfa would be a ... Sexbeam? Theyll sell millions!
