Why don't you get graphic equalisers anymore?

Just wondering really. I was brought up with these in the '80s and it was the sign of a good quality stereo - the more channels the better. It was almost a status symbol.
Where did they all go?
Do you hear that faint popping sound?Where did they all go?
That, my friend, is the sound that thousands of high-fidelity purists across the country make when their heads explode.

LOL
True but only in the same way that aftermarket spoilers/bodykits are a sign of quality to boy racers

In some ways I miss the bling of the old graphic equalisers in the same way that I miss seeing folks with massive bling ghetto blasters on park benches etc.
In a way they still exist, but you can't see them or at least the 'sliders' anyway...Many current AV amps have Audyssey EQ which has many more than 10 frequencies per channel (can't remember exactly how many though). The difference being that you can't control the frequencies as this is set by the amp when you do the initial setup (using a supplied mic), though there are a few setting choices, such as 'Flat', 'Audyssey' or even 'Manual' if you want to mess about with the sound yourself.
Right, now back to the car threads.

I have this on my Onkyo ampRight, now back to the car threads.

It just doesn't have the same artistic licence as sliders. Think that rather large number of sliders on the amp in Risky Business where Tom Cruise is dancing round the house to 'Old Time Rock and Roll'
As for talk of Spectum Analysers - I'm salivating thinking back to them. Yum yum

I wasn't into graphics but fancied a monster power power amp with big VU meters
