Hand brake issue

My handbrake on my 04 T350T will not ratchet in place, there is tension so i dont think the cable has snapped, but the release button is pressed in and will not lock in place. Unfortuately im not mechanically minded, but does any one have an idea of a quick fix before my service next month.

Just leave it in gear? I find the handbrake is not that great and so leave it in gear anyway.

If it is adjusted corectly the handbrake on the T cars works great (unlike earlier TVRs). The handbrake handle cover can be slipped off revealing the bare handle and button/spring, there are two tiny allen bolts holding it tight to the shaft which you can see by carefully pulling the trim back.

The button unscrews and springs off, it might just be trapped on the spring.

Sometimes the ratchet doesn't engage on mine. I find if I pull the handbrake up and towards the passenger side it engages. I'm guessing it's not aligned too well.

Thanks a lot guys, ive just taken the handle apart and re-assembled, it seems to have done the trick!!
